Animal Sancturies

April 1, 2021 Johannesburg, South Africa (Press Release) – Life-saving animal sanctuaries all over South Africa rescue and rehabilitate orphaned, injured or confiscated animals.  They're safe havens for elephants, lions, rhinos, chimps, monkeys, birds and reptiles.  This month, Springbok Casino salutes the heroes at shelters from Limpopo to the Western Cape.

Sadly, not all sanctuaries have the animals’ best interests at heart.

"A big red flag is the promotion of lion cub petting," said Springbok's manager, Daniel van Wyke. "These places aren't sanctuaries.  They're breeding and exploiting animals for profit!"

Springbok is sharing information and videos about 11 Ethical Animal Sanctuaries including:

Bambelela takes orphaned and injured monkeys, helps them form troops and relocates them to monkey-friendly game farms.

C.R.O.W. (Centre For Rehabilitation Of Wildlife) in Durban has assisted over 3000 orphaned, injured and displaced animals including mongoose, genets and antelope.

The Jane Goodall South Africa Chimpanzee Sanctuary is home to chimpanzees rescued from the bush meat trade, orphaned, traded in the illegal pet market, or rescued from circuses.

Lions from unspeakably awful circumstances live out their lives in peace and dignity at Drakenstein Lion Park.

Traumatized rhino calves as young as just a few days old are brought to The Rhino Orphanage where  they receive specialist care.
